Does your logo look out of place or seem like it’s not blending with other elements on a flyer or design or is less visible?

Well, this happens when you use the wrong logo colours or formats.

This guide will show you how to use proper logos for your flyer designs. But first, let’s clarify a few things.

What Format Should A Logo Be?

Logos must first be made in a plain, flat colour usually black. Colours and other styles are applied later.

Logos must be saved in PNG, SVG, WebP or GIF format which supports alpha channels (transparency). The universally supported format is PNG.

For printing and reuse you can save them in PDF or in whatever native format of the software you used to create the logo.

If a logo is saved in another format like JPG it won’t retain a transparent background. Instead, the background will be white.

A transparent background makes a logo sit well on any background without the white background(or any colour) behind it. It is better to put a white underlay to a transparent logo if the need arise when designing.

I see several logos in JPG format with a white background. Many of my clients give me these and you would have to remove the white background which can leave some fuzzy white outlines.

What Logo Types Should I Have?

It would help if you had different variants of your logo for different use cases. Some of these are:

Flat Colour Logos

You should have flat colour logos mostly black and white variants and the actual These colours offer better contrast on many backgrounds.

Full Colour Logo

The full logo has all the colours, the wordmark and the icon (if it has one).

Wordmarks & Icons

The wordmark is the text on the logo while the icon is any drawing, illustration or symbol. For example, the KFC logo has the word KFC and the smiling old man mascot (icon). Some logos only have wordmarks without any icons, e.g Coca Cola

If your logo has both an icon and a wordmark you can have both separately, i.e. the full logo, wordmark and the icon.

The icon of the logo can be used on social media profile photos or as a website icon.

Don’t save the primary logo with fancy styles and filters like 3d and shadow effects. Instead, apply these styles separately when needed. When you use a logo with styles already applied it may not blend well if you put it on other designs like flyers.

How To Change Logo Colours With Filters

Sometimes you may be stuck with a coloured logo that is not blending well with your design where you want to put it.

Suppose you have a blue background and your logo has some blue colours. Suppose blue is your brand colour and you need to have it. Obviously, the logo will be less visible and lack contrast.

You will need to change the logo colour to a more contrasting colour, e.g white. You can use filters to change the colour to white or black.

In the Flayaz design tool select your logo image, go to the Filter button in the Styles tab then click the whiten filter preset.

If you want to change the logo to a different colour other than black and white you’ll need to colourise it. Click Effects in the Styles tab, then click Colourise and select the colour you want to apply.
